SOME INFORMATION ABOUT STOCK HATCH CLASS

THE OBJECTIVE

To create a very low cost introduction to Autograss Racing which requires minimal car preparation skills yet offers high speed racing and room for some creative car building.

THE PRINCIPAL

All components should be standard, off the shelf, units. There should be no machining or specialised fabrication in any car. The cars should be easy to build, run and police. The class will work on the principal of honesty and trust.

CONSTRUCTION RULES

1) All cars must comply, in every way, with a NASA class. Nominally Class Six but five is possible.

2) NOTE: Check class rules carefully or ask for advice. Some cars cannot run in NASA classes, eg. an engine of 1131cc to 1420cc would be a class five and therefore cannot have fuel injection (injection allowed from 2001 season). Unless a car fits in a NASA class it cannot be licensed, this is beyond our control.

3) Cars must be Front Wheel Drive, hatchback vehicles with engine capacity between 1131cc and 1600cc with only two valves per cylinder.

4) Minis and their derivates are not allowed. Metros may be used.

5) Forced induction is not allowed.

6) Any engine/gearbox/drivetrain may be fitted to any bodyshell provided that they are of the same Marquee. eg. An Astra or Nova may only have Vauxhall components, An Escort or Fiesta may only have Ford components. Engine and gearbox must remain “as produced”.

7) Minor modifications to engine/gearbox mountings only are allowed to facilitate engine swaps. Engines intended for rear wheel drive cars may not be fitted.

8) Locked or limited slip differentials are not allowed.

9) Engine/gearbox must be fitted in the original position

10) Fuel injection is allowed provided it is standard on the engine used.

11) Fuel injected engines: Original injection system for the engine must be used including management/control equipment. Air filter & housing free.

12) Non injection engines: Carburettor, air filter & housing free. (NOTE rule 13)

13) Inlet and exhaust manifolds must be standard for the engine used. No modification to manifolds. Exhaust system beyond the manifold is free.

14) Suspension system and mountings must be standard. Springs may be fitted from any car within the same model range. eg. Any Nova springs on any Nova, any Peugeot 205 springs on any 205 etc.

15) Shock absorbers are free. Uprated shock absorbers must fit on original mountings without modification. Adjustable spring platforms not allowed unless original equipment.

16) Wheels and tyres are free.

17) Skinning of doors is allowed (on 4 door cars only the front doors may be skinned). No other modification to the shell is permitted other than the filling of lighting apertures etc . The entire floor, roof and bulkheads must be as manufactured.

18) Where original front bumpers are removed: If any moving parts are exposed then a suitable protective metal cover or grille must be fitted, maximum 20g thickness.

19) Bodyshells must retain their original silhouette. ie. no scoops, bonnet bulges, spoilers etc unless standard. Cutting or widening of wheel arches is allowed in accordance with NASA rules.

20) The over riding principal is that cars must be constructed from standard parts appropriate to the manufacturer of the bodyshell. The scrutineers’ decision will be final. Any car attempting to defeat the spirit of the class will be deemed illegal. If you are in any doubt at all, PLEASE ASK FIRST, we would rather spend a few minutes on the phone than have to “fail” your car.

21) Definition of standard: A mass produced vehicle, or parts thereof, which has been available for general sale through the manufacturer’s or importer’s entire dealer network in the United Kingdom. Any vehicle or part of a vehicle which may be considered as a “homolgation special” is excluded. Engine, drive train or body parts sold or intended for competition use are not allowed.

22) Every car registered as a Stock Hatch will be subject to a selling rule. Any driver may offer a sum of £300 to purchase any “Stock Hatch” engine/gearbox unit at the end of the racing season. The end of the racing season is defined for this purpose as any time after the last meeting held by a participating club but no less than 28 days before the start of the next season. The owner of the engine must accept this offer. The buyer must complete the purchase within seven days of the offer. Any engine bought under this rule may only race in a Stock Hatch 1600.

23) For the purpose of the “selling rule” the engine/gearbox unit is defined as: the complete engine, the gearbox/differential, carburettor(s)/injection equipment (including management) and the ignition system

24) Driver’s may only claim the right to buy an engine under the “selling rule” if they are registered to drive in Stock Hatch 1600 during the current season and have already raced a Stock Hatch 1600 which they own in the current season. If you haven’t got one, you can’t claim one.

25) Any “selling” dispute may be referred to the current Chairman of the licensing club or other person(s) appointed by him/her. That person’s decision will be final and binding on all parties.

26) The selling rule does not affect the rights of an owner to voluntarily negotiate the sale of an engine for a sum other than £300.

27) It is accepted that these rules may need to be altered or defined however it should be noted that the principal of no modification remains absolute. Drivers are welcome to ask for a change or definition of the rules. Details of any such changes or definitions will be made available to all Stock Hatch drivers.

RACING, LICENSING AND NUMBERS

1) Stock Hatch 1600 will be run as a separate class.

2) All Stock Hatch 1600 cars will run off a straight line start regardless of specification.

3) Stock Hatch 1600 cars will be licensed according to their NASA class.

4) All Stock Hatch 1600 cars will be issued with “600” numbers. eg. 601, 624, 672 etc.

5) In handicap races cars will start as per their NASA class.

6) Races will be run according to NASA rules, eg., non contact

7) Drivers will be expected to maintain cars in a tidy and presentable condition. Cars arriving at scrutineering with obvious severe body damage will be turned away.
